Not only does the coast offer the bright lights and fantastic night life of Skegness, but also a vast area of beautiful unspoiled countryside, dotted with nestling villages just waiting to be explored. For those seeking the best of the coastal attractions plus the tranquility of the Lincolnshire countryside, perhaps a little angling, quiet and romantic accommodation is here to be discovered. Here are just a few venues waiting to welcome you........
Burgh Le Marsh
Burgh (pronounced locally as "Borough") is a wonderful village some 3 miles east of Skegness, offering several local inns and small restaurants. Built on the side of a small hill, the history of Burgh may be traced back to Roman times. There is ample free car parking in the old village market square, located on the main road.

Take a little time to explore the old church and the few quaint shops that are mainly located on the main road.
Wainfleet
Wainfleet is about 5 miles from Skegness. A small market town similar to Burgh, offers many small inns and a real hint of yesteryear. The environment suggests that time may have stopped here long ago. Wainfleet is the home town of Bateman's Brewery, and is surrounded on two sides by the meandering River Steeping.
Similar to Burgh, the history of Wainfleet dates back to Roman times, when salt was produced from the nearby Wash. Wainfleet at one time boasted of a thriving port, and had its own mint.
Mablethorpe
Located some 16 miles to the north of Skegness the delightful resorts of
Sutton On Sea, Trustthorpe and Mablethorpe provide the northern flank of the
Lincolnshire "Fun Coast". Although smaller in size, the resort of
Mablethorpe is the home of many smaller hotels, guesthouses and caravan
parks. The beaches are inviting and are well maintained with an excellent
standard of cleanliness. The small funfair, arcades, restaurants and snack
bars provide a haven for young families. To the north, wild, open coastal
countryside, much managed by Lincolnshire Wildlife
Trust provides a haven for exploring totally unspoiled coastal
landscapes, including an abundance of wildlife.
Mablethorpe is located on the A52 and can be accessed by car or by public
service bus from Skegness Coach / Railway station.
Lincolnshire Wolds
Totally undiscovered an un-spoiled the Wolds begin in the order of 6 miles inland. A delight for walking, cycling and lovers of the countryside. Image (right) courtesy of Jasmine Cottage (BB). |
