Skegness, Ingoldmells and Chapel St. Leonards pride themselves with
both an ideal level terrain, and excellent facilities for both elderly
and disabled visitors. Most local
hotels,
caravan parks and
self-catering
establishments will have limited ground floor bedrooms (or wheelchair
friendly caravans). Several hotels have specific classified facilities
that are welcoming to disabled visitors. For those dependant on a
carer or family, consider a holiday break in a specialised holiday
care home (below), a holiday on the coast, but with 24 hour care. A
wonderful gift from family to an aging loved one?
The Embassy Centre
Theatre was designed for ease of access for wheelchairs, so there
is great entertainment for all - without restriction.
Because the whole coastline is
level, mobility should present very little problem to most wheelchair
users. Access to the beach in the town centre is excellent and
various routes provide easy access to sea-defence pathways that expand several miles to
the north and a shorter distance south. Wheelchair visitors may
however encounter some problem on certain areas (of the sea-defences) due to sand which may
be washed over the walkways at high tide. While it is very difficult to keep
all sea-defence pathways clear on a constant basis, those in the
town centre are well maintained and should be
accessible at most times. There is an unsurfaced area to the north of
North Shore Road, which is located on private property, and
is inaccessible for wheelchair users.
Wheelchair hire and electric
scooter hire is readily available at several locations in Skegness and
district.
